How to Make a Shea Butter Body Balm with Essential Oils

The Story Behind Shea Butter Body Balm

A few weeks ago, I wrote about a couple of upcycling projects. I told you all to stay tuned to see what I did with those little baby food jars!

Rewind a few years…

I was invited to a DoTerra Essential Oil party by a friend. The idea was to see how you can use oils in your everyday life and she gave us an opportunity for a couple of make-and-take items. It was awesome!

One of those items was a shea butter balm.

I don’t know about you all, but I get super dry hands in the wintertime. If they get too bad they even start to crack and hurt. It’s pretty awful.

This shea butter balm is the best thing I’ve found to keep my hands from drying out. And believe me, I’ve tried a lot of different things. It’s really been a game-changer!

I asked my friend if I could share her recipe and she said I could! So I’m going to post it down below for others to use if they’re interested.

Enjoy giving to friends and family!

If making more than one batch, simply double or triple the ingredients.

Delicious-Smelling Combos of Essential Oils to Add

5 drops peppermint, 5 drops wild orange

3 drops each peppermint, lemon, and lavender

4 drops lavender, 6 drops wild orange

5 drops douglas fir, 5 drops grapefruit

You can use whatever oils that you think would work well in a balm! I like melaleuca and lavender because they’re soothing and good for your skin.

If you want to make make your own beeswax, you can learn how to in our tutorial how to render beeswax!

If you try the recipe, let me know! I’d love to hear from you.

Disclaimer: I am not a DoTerra salesperson and I am strictly speaking from my own experience. I am not making any claims that this will work as well for you as it did for me, or trying to promote a product for my own gain. I was just really excited by this salve and I hope it works as well for all of you as it did for me!

Also, please pay attention to anything that may be an allergy trigger for you.
